Do you desire to express your voice more effectively in worship?

My vocal training method is loosely based on a contemporary program orginating in California called "speech level singing". I have recently experienced some obvious changes in my own voice through this method. Some of my friends have had similar experiences. Although I’ve received individual lessons and other types of vocal training for over 25 years, this is the easiest and most fruitful method I’ve experienced.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis on vocal music. Since the early 90’s most of my experience has been in the contemporary Christian worship movement. We will use common worship songs as teaching material. I want you to enjoy what you are singing and will work with you to pick out songs you will enjoy practicing. You can develop your voice as an integral part of your devotionals and worship. Finally, you will be more likely to practice if you experience noticeable changes in your voice. When you’re motivated to practice, your skills will develop more rapidly and you will see results!

What you will learn:

  • Proper technique for breathing
  • Vocal relaxation exercises to eliminate vocal strain
  • Terminology and physiology for understanding your voice
  • Develop a natural vibrato and know when/how to use it
  • How to mix your vocal registers i.e. creating smooth transitions from low to high voice
  • Increase your vocal range (high and low)
  • Contemporary, conversational-style singing
  • Natural vowel production and diction
  • Techniques for a voice that is confident, smooth, powerful and versatile
  • Scales and easy training exercises to strengthen your voice and extend your range
  • How to sing spontaneously in a improvisational style
